Ballers

22 11 2009

I had a great time at the ball.  Although my feet really hurt after wearing heels all night.  The ball was the same time as the Holiday Parade in Halifax, and in the same area.  So we couldn’t cab it to the location and had to walk.  Ouch!

I did my own hair and was really pleased that it lasted through walking to a friend’s place, pre-balling, walking to the ball, the whole ball, and cabbing home.  It looked the same at 3:00 pm as it did at 1:00 am.  And it really didn’t take long to do.

Here’s a pic of me:

Here is me and Tim at his friend’s place pre-ball:

Here’s us at the ball:

And here is us with Frosty:

The food at the ball was actually pretty good.  I always get the vegetarian option – and it wasn’t pasta this time!  It was some kind of pastry with portobello mushrooms, peppers, feta and a mushroom sauce with rice and beans on the side and some steamed veggies.  I was disappointed in the dessert though – it was milk chocolate and dark chocolate cake with chocolate and chocolate syrup and ice cream and berries.  Um, I don’t like chocolate so I just ate the berries and passed it on to Tim to finish.

It was a great time and I love seeing Tim in a suit!

Having a Ball

21 11 2009

Tonight is the med school ball.

In first year it was a masquerade ball – which was really fun.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any good pics of it :(

Last year, it was a Las Vegas themed ball – but since I was in Toronto I didn’t get to go :(  They even had a photo booth with a “Just Married – Little White Wedding Chapel” sign in it.  Tim, who is the cutest man alive, posed for a pic in it with his arm extended to go around me, if I had been there.  It was too cute when he showed me the pic.  Unfortunately, I can’t find that pic.

This year it is A Midwinter’s Night’s Dream (I think).  We are meeting up with friends at 3:00 pm so it is going to be a LONG night, but hopefully fun.  It’s almost time to get ready!

Not Vegan

19 11 2009

I saw the Olympic flame being passed FOUR times yesterday.  I was on the bus headed home after work and the bus was on the flame route – just a couple cars behind the flame.  So I saw it three times on the bus.  And when I got off and was walking home, the flame intersected my path again for a hand-off.  It was actually pretty cool and I got a bit emotional.  Especially because just the other day a friend of mine was a flame-bearer in another part of NS – so when I saw the flame here, I was picturing him running with it.

Today, I went for a great run with fellow Halibloggers Jaime and Lynn.  We ran around some really nice Halifax homes and pointed out our favorite ones.   I cut the run a bit short – as they ran back to their cars we went past my place so I popped inside.  I was fantastic to run with the ladies and I hope we can do this more often, even after the Santa Shuffle!

Tim is currently making a veggie taco dinner – not because it’s vegan day or anything, but because it was on the menu this week.  Plus we are having real cheese with them so it’s not so vegan.  But man, it smells delicious!

I am so happy that tomorrow is Friday!  I get to wear jeans to work.   I am so excited about that.  I always had to wear a full dark suit.  So wearing jeans just blows my mind!

No YELLING Please

17 11 2009

Now that I am back into a routine (8:00 am – 4:30 pm) I need to work hard on getting my eating on the healthy side.  Part of my issue is . . . gasp! . . . I don’t eat breakfast when I work.  I know – WORST THING EVER.  But I am really trying.  I am bringing things to work (veggies!) and munching in the morning and it is getting better.  So no yelling please :)

Dinner today was a lovely pizza.  My half had spinach, broccoli, tomato, mushrooms, pineapple and cheese.  Yum.

I picked up a new iron and ironing board cover today too – this was the highlight of my day :)

Is it Friday yet?  Speaking of the weekend, I am going to a ball Saturday night!  Tim has a school ball and this year I get to go!

Shot At

16 11 2009

I called in sick today.

I got the flu shot and the “other” flu shot on Saturday (I’m asthmatic and supposed to get them every year – but haven’t.  Now that the hubby is in medicine and knows about things, he makes me get them because of the increased risks I face with the asthma).

Saturday night I was at Farm Girl’s place, celebrating her b-day (and Jaime’s b-day too!) and I started to feel really weird.  And I wasn’t drinking.  I felt woozy and off-balance and nauseated.  I left and Tim put me to bed.  I slept from 2am Saturday night (really, Sunday morning) until basically today at 3:00 pm!  seriously!  I slept all that time, with maybe three 1/2 hour awake time to get something to eat.  I was super nauseated and I think I had a fever because I was achey and chilled and just miserable.  The only thing I could eat was plain rice with a bit of soy sauce.  I feel a better now, but still really tired and weak.

The flu shot can sometimes cause you to feel sick because it is suppose to trigger your immune system response so you build up an immunity.  Lots of people don’t feel bad after the shot, but I guess I did!  Either that, or I was getting sick at the same time anyway, coincidentally.

But I can tell you, if how I feel was an inkling of how the “other” flu hits you – get the shot!  I am so glad I got the shot, even if I had to endure maybe 36 hours of misery.

This was the first time I have called in sick to work in maybe 5 years.

New post on the private blog.

The Day After

12 11 2009

I’m going to do up a big post about work-related stuff soon and post in on the private blog.  I’ll let everyone know when it is up – and if you don’t have access, you can email me and I’ll give you access.  I obviously won’t be posting anything confidential – just about the general environment compared to my last job.  I need some advice.  I’ll probably get it written up this weekend so stay posted :)

In other news, Timmy is off vaccinating people tonight (regular flu and H1N1) so I am home alone.  I think I may go to be at 8:00!  All this working is making me tired when I am so used to being lazy.

My upper legs really hurt today!  Tomorrow is my next planned run – so i hope they hurt a bit less, but I do like the feeling of being sore from exercise.  I mapped out a 5 km route to do, but I may go on the treadmill instead.   I’d be running in the dark – and Tim has doctor stuff to do so he can’t come.  I’ll see what feels right tomorrow after work.

4 km

11 11 2009

The run felt great!  I hadn’t done any type of exercise since early September!  Yikes!

Tim and I did 4 km in 34 minutes.  We did a really slow jog – and stopped to walk only 3 times (and for maybe a minute each time).  The third time wasn’t planned – we just ran into (literally) someone we know and had to stop to say hi.  It was a good run to get me back into the spirit of things.

Tomorrow I am going to map out a 5 km run and see how it goes.  A couple 5 km runs, then I will try to increase my very slow speed.  I know I have a lot more in me – but I have a hard time pushing myself.  Not sure why but guessing that it has a lot to do with the fact that I am LAZY!

The Santa Shuffle is coming up really quickly and I need to get my butt in gear.  Can everyone do me a favour and yell at me in the comments section if I don’t keep up the running?

Back in Training

Tim proposed going for a run.  I’m in.  Will report back later.

Soliciting BB Comments

10 11 2009

Well, now that I have worked 2 days I deserve a break :)

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day and in Nova Scotia that is a statutory holiday!  It isn’t in Ontario for some crazy reason.  Tim also has the day off – he is doing family medicine out by Angie and the clinic is closed.  I plan to sleep in and cook a roast.

I’ve had a constant headache since yesterday at lunch – I think it is from staring at a computer all day doing work.  I need to adjust.  I miss checking my email, twitter and blogs, so I am going to get a BB – hopefully this weekend!  I’ve wanted one for a while and will probably get a pretty basic Curve – can everyone who has one tell me what model BB you have and how you like it? Tim will be getting an iPhone because they have better applications for doctor stuff.  It’s going to be our early Christmas present to each other.  I can’t wait!

I have lots more to ramble on about but I need to stop looking at the computer now and rest my eyes.
