Had to take the day off work – feeling pretty sick.  Unfortunately, I have a coffee meeting tomorrow before work, meaning I will get to work late and have to work late as a result of that.  Not good when sick.  But oh well – I am still happy I have a job that lets me sit down while working!

I stayed in bed the whole day and napped on and off.  When I wasn’t napping I was eating a lot of junk food.  Sickness brings out the binge in me.  Oh well, I wallowed in sickness for a day and now it is back to being healthy and hopefully doing some Booty Camp DVD tomorrow!

Book Book Book Books (said like a chicken)

I just had a wonderful day with my MIL.  We went to church and then she took me to brunch at Cora’s (where I had eggs benny with mushrooms and brie) and then we spent a few hours at the best secondhand bookshop in Nova Scotia (there is one in Toronto that does rival it – so I can’t say the best in the world).  Tim is on-call so he missed out!  I bought over $100 worth of books and can’t wait to start reading!

Last night I watched Zombieland – which is a really funny and entertaining movie, in my opinion.  Better than I expected it – and I really wanted to see it.  I am now looking forward to Defendor.  I say a preview and think it will be hilarious!  I love Woody Harrelson.

I am currently sipping on a cup of tea, about to take some Advil and hoping that this headache I’ve had all weekend will go away!

Up and At Em

Mission “Up and at Em” was a success!  I rolled out of bed and proceeding to do the Booty Camp Fitness Ultimate Home Edition Serenity Stretch (in my pjs again) than leisurely sipped on a cup of tea before work this morning.  One of the perks of the husband being on call is that I can be loud in the morning and not bother anyone.

Me likes the Serenity Stretch very much – especially doing sun salutations to start the day.  It was really nice and peaceful and got me in a calm mood for work.  But I am going to try to do the beginner Phase 1 tomorrow – although the stretching was super nice so we’ll see what I end up doing :)

I am ridiculously hungry today and have decided to order pizza in for a quasi-date night with the husband, since he is too tired to go out.  I exercised and ate healthy all day so a splurge fits into my daily plan.





Long John FAIL

Thanks for the hot weather suggestions – Bora Bora and a cruise are on my list.  Too bad I can’t afford to go on a vacation for a couple of years :(  For now I’ll just dream and cruise “websites”, not boats.

I ended up wearing my Under Armor leggings today under my pants.  And I felt like a bulky marshmallow all day. Since I have a heater at my desk I’m not cold enough to put up with the bulk (although the extra heat was nice).  None of my dress pants, or even jeans, really allow for the extra bulk, and I actually wear things loose too.  Boo.

Today as my department’s assistant.  I got her potted tulips, which I think she liked.  And the boss brought in cake.  It was a cake that was 3 different chocolates.  Now, I like some types of chocolate (chocolate chip cookies, some chocolate bars) but I HATE chocolate cake.  And the department is so small I couldn’t refuse any without explaining why and people thinking I am weird.  I’m still the new one, and about 10 years younger than everyone else.  So I choked down almost 1/2 a piece.  And felt like vomiting.  SO GROSS!

Tim is on call again tonight (yup, 6 night calls in 2 weeks and each call is over 24 hours long, besides his normal 11-ish hour days) so I decided to pick up some Subway on the way home.  My plans are eating, having a “spa” night and reading a book (or playing WoW) in bed.  I want to get to bed early so I can get up and do some of the Booty Camp Fitness DVD tomorrow morning before work.

Anyone else watch Lost last night?  I am not a big tv watcher – quite ironic considering where I work :)  But Lost is one of the shows I have seen a bit of.  I missed the first 2 seasons, watched some of 3 and 4, and missed season 5.  So last night blew me away!  I’m thinking when this season is done and the series is over, I might rent all 6 seasons and watch from the beginning and try to piece things together to see if the ending fits.





Dreaming of Hot Weather

It is so cold here in Halifax!  Negative double digit cold.  I may actually wear my skiing long johns tomorrow under my work clothes.  Brr.

I really wish I was going down south this year.  Not sure where I would go though, because I like to do a new place each time.  I’ve done the Dominican, Cuba, Mexico and Jamaica.  Which country should I go to next?





Kicked the Can (of Tea)

I have been the entire month of January without a Tim Horton’s tea.  This is big.  I usually have a MINIMUM of 1 a day – and since I do a triple triple (of cream and sugar) it is 350 calories a pop.

I was such a big addict that the primary reason I moved into my old apartment building in Toronto has the fact it had 2 Tim Horton’s in it.  And a big selling point on my new job was that it had a Tim Horton’s next to it.  I’m not joking.

But I think I have kicked the habit!  I still have tea in the morning, but when I make it myself it is closer to 100 calories than 350 calories.  I am noticing that my body feels fitter – and god knows it is not because of all the exercise I haven’t been doing.

Next step – switch to green tea in the morning.  I drink a lot of green tea and herbal teas already, but love that first cup of real english tea in the mornings with sugar and cream.  But I am going to give it another month of no Tim Horton’s, than go to no english tea.  Every bit of excess calories I can get rid of each day without feeling deprived is a big help!





Pick Up the Phone…I’m All Alone

You know that friend you had?  The one who was your best friend from grade 4 until university?  The one one did everything with to the point you don’t have many childhood memories that don’t include them in some way?

Call that person.

Because they might really need to talk to you.  And it will make you feel amazing that you could be there for them when they needed someone who truly knows them, even if you haven’t spoken to them in 9 years.

I am alone tonight.  Tim is on-call AGAIN tonight.  He has 3 on-call nights this week :(  I spent the evening cleaning and talking to an old friend (see above).

I plan on slapping on a face mask soon and possibly shaving my legs.  Possibly.  Yup, this is what Friday nights are like when you are 29.

Lesson Learned – Buffalo Chicken Style

I am so out of groceries I had to eat lunch out today.  I just HAD to :)

I ended up grabbing a to-go buffalo chicken salad at the cafe in my work building.  Which was gross.  And a cookie.  Which was delicious.  And a diet Pepsi.  Which was also delicious.  I remembered why I always bring my lunch – I avoid all temptations, I get more bang for my buck, and I eat a lot healthier.  Lesson learned, and I am off to the grocery store to stock up on healthy eats.

I also have my yoga mat (yup, that’s right – I have never “done” yoga but have an awesome Nike yoga mat curtsey of the husband.  It’s even nicer than his mat, and he HAS done yoga) laid out on the floor to remind me to do some stretching tonight.  The Seaside Serenity Stretch on the Booty Camp Fitness DVD I did yesterday made me happy and relaxed all day today with just the right amount of soreness, and I want that feeling again!  I hope to get to the grocery store, make and eat dinner and have time to digest so I can do some stretches before bed.





Booty Booty Booty Booty Rockin’ Everywhere

I had the pleasure of being contacted by the lovely Lisa at Booty Camp Fitness about reviewing the new Booty Camp DVD – Booty Camp Fitness Ultimate Home Edition.  Um, of course!  Who doesn’t love a little Booty!

My plans got a bit side-tracked due to my curling injury and family visiting from out of town, but tonight I finally got to do part of the video!  I picked something in line with my recent feelings – that I really need to work on my flexibility and breathing (and I have been in a meditative mood lately too).

So I started on the Seaside Serenity Stretch.  It was great!  I am totally inept at knowing what to stretch and how long to stretch for and I have never done yoga before.  So this was great for me.  The commentary was appropriate for newbies and not distracting, which made me feel really calm.  I like how I can do the Seaside Serenity Stretch alone, or after another one of the other 7 programs on the DVD.  I am really feeling the aftereffects of all that stretching and I know I’ll be sore tomorrow.  I also feel really mellow and content.  And taller, but I think that’s in my head :)

My camera is out of commission, or else I would have tried to get some pics of me doing downward dog – in my pajamas.  The ones the husband refers to as the “green nightmare” pajamas.  Hot.
